Mode of delivery

This course module is an online module for nurses and midwives. Different units of the course will be offered using weekly lectures, readings, discussion forums, and individual activities in a period of 3 - 4 weeks.

Learning Outcomes:

On successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

1. Effectively and efficiently do patient assessment
2. Use the information gathered in the assessment step to come up with correct nursing diagnosis
3. Formulate goals and outcomes from the nursing diagnosis
4. Make a nursing care plan with the nursing interventions 
5. Implement the suggested interventions to help solve the patient’s problems
6. Evaluate the process to ensure continuity of patient improvement

By the end of this course, Nurses and Midwives will be able to:

1. Explain and understand the meaning of Customer care service.
2. Profile customers in a healthcare setting.
3. List the importance of internal and external customers.
4. Differentiate healthcare customer care from other types of service interactions.
5. Adopt a positive attitude and behaviours that foster good service delivery.
6. Manage stressful situations
7. Identify barriers to effective communication.
8. Apply techniques that enhance effective communication.
9. Adopt communication styles for communicating across cultures.
10. Explain and understand the importance of personal branding.
11. Develop action plan to adapt service delivery to the Nursing oath and anthem.

This course module is an online module. Different units of the course will be offered using weekly lectures, readings, discussion forums, individual activities and assessments over a period of 4-6 weeks.

The module will address management of the major maternal child health causes of morbidity and mortality. It will cover the following topics under 7 units:

• Unit 1: Safe motherhood
• Unit 2: Ante partum haemorrhage
• Unit 3: Severe PET and Eclampsia
• Unit 4: Post partum haemorrhage
• Unit 5: Obstructed labor
• Unit 6: Shoulder dystocia
• Unit 7: Comprehensive abortion care 
• Unit 8: Helping babies breathe  

This module has been designed to improve the health of mothers and newborns and it is hoped that this intervention will avert morbidities and mortalities. It is designed based on WHO and Ministry of health (Uganda) Guidelines and standards.
